We moved on from Plato to Aristotle in my morning Foundations of Philosophy class today. Got another class session coming up in 25 minutes. Here are reflections about what I discuss with my students as we look at Aristotle's Metaphysics book 1

I periodically fuss about paywalls on various things, but especially climate. I advocate for what I tentatively call a "paywall exception". I finally wrote a short blog essay explaining what this is about.

Teaching two sections of my Foundations in Philosophy class, walking to and from Marquette University, meeting with a friend and colleague, and writing a short piece in my Substack wore me out. Clearly still sick. Had to lie down after I got home and take a nap. Now back to work

YouTube certainly is capricious. Had the video of this public talk I gave recently restricted to limited or no monetization for "inappropriate language". What was the timestamped word that even a human reviewer thought was dirty? "Kant"

If you installed the latest macOS 15.0 Sequoia on your primary Mac for work, how’s it going?

I'm particularly interested in the experiences of those working in computational and/or quantitative sciences, but the more input the better!

British author, linguist & lexicographer Samuel Johnson was born #OTD in 1709.

Johnson’s most famous achievement is his Dictionary, which was the first major comprehensive dictionary of English. It became the standard reference work for decades and influenced the way dictionaries were compiled.

@neuralreckoning I’m starting to think people judge software by their immediate experience of it, rather than by what it does. Good software might make you reflect on how you use it, and that’s not something people see as a positive.
