I sympathize with Judge Merchan, who I believe has refrained from jailing Trump to avoid allowing Trump to play the victim and raise money off of that. I also think Merchan probably doesn’t want to interrupt the trial for hearings over whether Trump is causing his sycophantic Republican electeds to say things that violate the gag order. … Merchan cannot allow Trump and the sycophants to make a mockery of the gag order. This is part of a concerted effort to weaken any court that tries to hold Trump and the Republican Party to rule of law, in preparation for using the courts to claim victory in November, regardless of the actual ballot counts. 2/

Today I present fresh results from two semesters of waitlist control trials at our 2nd annual #Teaching and #Learning Symposium. Did #argumentMapping improve individual students' critical thinking and persuasive writing (on average)?

The prior between-group research didn't control for instructor(s), teaching style (active vs. lecture), interaction (individual vs. group learning), course topic, classroom, day, etc. So I did.

The results are surprising me!

Had fun yesterday getting non-#philosophy students to ask philosophical questions about #LLMs. Can we attribute understanding to them? Can we attribute beliefs? I asked the students to consider the difference between belief and imagination, and we quickly realised that belief essentially requires certain connections to action as well as sensitivity to evidence. The more you think about it, the more you see that any use of epistemological terms for LLMs is utterly misleading.
