Good news from Almost Home Cat Rescue MKE. They're reopening Saturday after prudently closing down three weeks back. I'm planning to go in for open house on Sunday and hang out with the cats and kittens

Ran out of steam halfway through the day, and had to take a nap. Had a meeting about curriculum development, shot two core concept videos, did a guest appearance on a podcast, & took care of some household chores. Then I was just wiped out! Now got a second wind and making dinner

OpenAI is like:

We built this tool. No idea what it is good for. Pay us to figure out for yourself!

OpenAI is even like:

Investors, give us billions! Then we build AGI. And then we ask AGI how to generate ROI.

@SteveCooke there is a content-neutral understanding of 'equality before the law' on which account it merely requires the application of a law without exception (even if that law itself is inegalitarian).

but you'd be right that R seems to be talking about something more substantive

I see that Rishi Sunak has decided that the best way to reduce worker sickness levels isn’t to improve the NHS, adequately fund mental health services, reduce stress, improve safety, or in any way support those who are sick, but rather to simply disbelieve people who say they are ill. You now, I’m starting to get vague hints that Sunak might be a bit of a cock. #ukpolitics

Sunak has made life more difficult, unhealthy, and stressful for everyone. He’s contributed to the conditions that make people ill, and how he’s spreading revolting old prejudices about mental health and that people on benefits are lazy shirkers. He’s a gaslighting prick.

Very saddened to hear about Daniel Dennett's death: he was one of the philosophers who most inspired my approach to the field, and I was lucky to have met him, if only briefly, early on in my career.

HP Lovecraft says cosmic terror is something primal, deriving from a fear of the unknown we've inherited from a time when so much was unknown, the world full of hidden dangers

In modern times, when science has explained so much, such terror only arises when the laws of nature are broken, and suddenly the world is not as we thought it to be. Hence Lovecraft's tales being full of strange geometry and weird dimensions

Morning. It's another day, rainier and greyer than the last, and Rousseau is at it again. He surely must be the most infuriatingly inconsistent thinker ever. I do not know how the academics who dedicate themselves to his work live to any great age - I can feel my blood pressure rising and I’m probably going to have ground my teeth down to stubs. Today, it’s his arguments about equality and the law.

#knitting question. What kind of bind-off would you do?

I have two more rows of 1000 sts to go, and then I want to bind-off. He patterns says: bind off in MC (grey in my case) in pattern (k1, p1, rib).

I'm thinking of doing i-cord bind-off in contrasting yellow, any suggestions?

It's a hap (scarf-like), cotton-wool blend. Pattern: Theme and Variation, from book on haps by Kate Davies.
