ICYMI (Philosophy) Daily Digest report

Sometimes one is weirdly able to worry simultaneously about the most mundane personal matters and the most serious global and national ones. Today, worrying about the situation in the Middle East does not put into perspective the stress of packing up my household for a long-distance move. Instead, my psychic perspective is flattened, with concerns about both occupying the same plane. Know what I mean?

Picked up an abandoned WIP today, only to know again why it was abandoned... final rows of a hap (type of shawl), 16 more rows to go... 980 stitches each.

I'm afraid of putting it aside again now that I have counted those stitches...

Fortunately it is a very nice border. Unfortunately it is mostly ribbing, and slipping stitches (so that a stripe of contrast colour only appears on one side, not the other). Very nice.

But. A. Lot. Of. Stitches.

Afgelopen vrijdag stonden we met Extinction Rebellion en Kappen met Kolen op de N205 voor het Provinciehuis in Haarlem

De provincie moet de kooksgasfabrieken van Tata Steel sluiten, nu. Kolen stoken kan echt niet meer.

One of the areas I work in is the ethics of different forms of #protest, and watching the steady repression of peaceful protest, and indeed any form of disagreement or dissent, in the UK has been really alarming. Call me old-fashioned, but I'd quite like a government that didn't regard authoritarianism as a good thing. #ukpolitics

Added another stripe, 4 rows, so 4000 stitches.... 3 more stripes to go before bind-off.

But the ribbing-slipped-stitches pattern is worth the effort.
The picture: in front you see WS: the yellow stripes show. In the back the RS: no stripes, but all grey with little bit of yellow shining through.

Yarn: puno due, lana grossa, cotton-wool mix. Lovely to work with.

Still struggling to “do” Mastodon, but it just occurred to me that when i open twiXer, I get angry and stressed. When I open #Mastodon, I usually learn something interesting.

I do find Mastodon overwhelming though, in the sense I find a pile of books overwhelming. The feed feels impossible to keep up with, perhaps because toots feel more valuable than tweets.
